MTN launches FIFA phase two 2014 World Cup Activation Plan - 3.5.2014

Africa's first and only global sponsor of a FIFA World Cup today officially unveiled its global 2014 campaign with a clarion call to action:"We can't wait, Let's go 2014".

The campaign is being rolled out across MTN's 21 markets in Africa and the Middle East. The campaign got off to a cracking start at the mobile operator's Johannesburg headquarters at a launch event steeped in 2014 euphoria. In Ghana, the event took place held in Accra at the MTN Soccer Academy House. A similar launch will be held in Kumasi on Saturday March 7, 2014. The highlight of the ceremony was the launch of the MTN FIFA Phase 2 campaign theme"We can't wait, let's go 2014".

Speaking at the launch, Chief Marketing Officer MTN Ghana, George Andah said, "as you have already seen from our sponsorship of the recent 26th Africa Cup of Nations held in Ghana, MTN's involvement in football is more than just sponsorship. It is a statement of pride and an expression of our belief in the African Continent and what it can achieve. This commitment to football and to the development of the African continent through Mobile telephony underlines the actions we will take as we prepare to host the world."

He continued, "to reinforce the statement made by the Group President during the launch in South Africa, It's an experience we can no longer wait for; one that should strengthen our competitive position in emerging markets, leave a legacy of improved infrastructure for our economy and demonstrate to the world that an African continent - and South Africa in particular - is capable of hosting events of this size".
Mr Andah also unveiled a bold campaign to drastically reduce malaria deaths in Africa. This campaign would significantly be achieved as we partner with technical and advocacy groups to help ensure 100%coverage and usage of anti –malaria mosquito bed nets in affected areas by 2014. MTN believes more than 4million African lives will be saved by 2014 with the implementation of this legacy project.
The malaria drive is being launched as part of MTN s broader Campaign theme,' We can't wait, let's go 2014 Campaign in which the first and only African global sponsor of the 2014 FIFA World Cup declares that ‘it can't wait' for everyone to be 100% protected from malaria.

Mawuena Dumor, Executive Director of the MTN Foundation and Corporate Services Executive Ghana says, this affirms our commitment to the development of Africa and it also shows that MTN is a company with a social conscience. We are really excited about this opportunity".
MTN also announced that Michael Essien, the Chelsea middle fielder and a member of Ghana's National team has joined the MTN team as its proud 2014 associate to fly the mobile operator's flag to the farthest corners of the world.
MTN is not only pleased to be working with Michael Essien, but also hoping to work closely with his mother, Madam Aba Djanode, who is engaged in the fight against malaria. The disease is the focus of MTN's 2014 legacy programme to spread the benefits of the first FIFA World Cup in Africa by ensuring 100% coverage of affected areas with malaria bed nets by 2014.

The launch, which attracted a large group of MTN staff, members of the media and other stakeholders, also saw staff engage in an interdivisional football contest. MTN also announced plans to unveil a series of promotions starting from April to reward all its stakeholders including employees, customers and the general public.

MTN is the sponsor of the FIFA 2014 World cup to be held in South Africa. It is the first-ever feat by an African company.
